Sailor Special Edition King of Pens (KOP) Kaga Urushi Slate Blue Gold Trim Fountain Pen
The Sailor King of Pens Urushi is a luxury fountain pen, with the choice of 12 colours. The fountain pen is impressively large and yet satisfyingly weighty, the Sailor King of Pens range are perfectly balanced fountain pens, and the bi-colour 21K gold nib is beautifully smooth and easy-flowing.
Urushi lacquer is a very special natural material, which is made from the sap of trees, which only grows in East Asian countries. These Urushi is in a very limited supply. Deciduous Urushi tree takes 15 years to reach maturity. The Urushi sap is then mixed with other compounds to form the lacquer. When hand apllied to the surface of the pen and kept in high humidity it slowly sets into a hard durable and lustrous finish, which is waterproof and resistant to most other materials. This special lacquered surfcace protects the pen in the best possible manner. The Urushi is applied in up to 12 separate coatings, all of which have fully harden and dry before the next application. The total process can take up to two months to prepare.
