Namiki Yukari Royale Noshi Bundle Traditional Japanese Wrapper Fountain Pen

Namiki Yukari Royale Noshi Bundle Traditional Japanese Wrapper Fountain Pen

It uses the Togidashi-Taka Maki-e technique (Burnished and Raised maki-e). This highly refined technique involves layering lacquer and powdered metals, then meticulously polishing the surface to reveal a stunning three-dimensional design. The "Noshi Bundle" motif, symbolizing good fortune and celebration, is rendered with exceptional depth and detail. Back in the 12th century, a noshi was a decorative element attached to gifts at celebration events, a token of good luck, a symbol to express good wishes. Originally it might have been fresh meat or fish, but it evolved into dried fish, especially stretched and dried abalone. More recently this strip of dried abalone was replaced by silk ribbons tied together with a golden thread, and/or by a narrow strip of yellow/golden paper ceremonially folded into a white origami. The noshi motifs as such were also used on kimonos worn on festive days.

Crafted by the renowned Maki-e artisan, Misa Seki. She is one of the very few female artisans in the Kokkokai group. This pen is a testament to years of dedicated training and artistic mastery. Each stroke and detail reflects the artisan's skill and passion.

This is a Yukari Royale model fitted with a #20 18K gold nib, and is renowned for its smooth and responsive writing experience. It represents Namiki's highest level of craftsmanship, featuring a larger barrel for a substantial and luxurious feel.

This model is the most expensive model in the Yukari Royale model. It takes about 8-10 months to complete this. It is long because of the difficult maki-e technique used. It requires a lot of time and effort from the artisan to do it and the price reflects it accordingly.
