Caran d'Ache Limited Edition 2012 Li Qiang Sheng Dragon Fountain Pen

According to legend, the Emperor of Jade summoned all the animals in creation to a mysterious meeting, promising them a special reward. But only 12 animals reponded to the invitation. The Emperor then gave each of the twelve a year of their own, numbered in the order of their arrival, and that year would carry their name for ever. The fifth sign is the Dragon, the only mythological animal to be included in the Chinese zodiac.
2012 will be the year of the Dragon.  To celebrate this year and confirm its admiration for Chinese culture, Caran d’Ache, Maison de Haute Ecriture, has created a new, prestigious writing instrument with a powerful character and full of positive virtues.
A divine creation to honour a mythical creature The five-fingered Dragon is one of the founding myths of Chinese civilisation: the messenger of the Gods, the guide for human beings and the master of the elements.
The body of the pen, carefully polished by hand then enveloped in soft black lacquer, is surrounded by the sinous form of the powerful red dragon. As guardian of all the Earth's riches, it seizes possession
of this Limited Edition, gripping the body with the full force of its five fingers, never to part from it and to protect it with eternal goodwill.
The Dragon motif appears five times on the body, engraved by laser to enrich the pen with subtle glimmers of light.
A beautiful writing instrument dedicated to the secrets behind the
Dragon:

underneath the shiny black Chinese Lacquer body

In the pure tradition of Chinese lacquer With its gleaming coat of Chinese lacquer, the «Year of the
Dragon» Limited Edition pays a genuine tribute to this living
material. Used since the Shan Dynasty in the 14th Century BC,
lacquer is a technique that calls for a high degree of patience that is
typically Oriental. It is applied by hand in a succession of fine layers
and certain master craftsmen of Caran d'Ache are trained in this
formidably delicate process, preserving the art by combining ancient Chinese tradition with advanced modern technology.
The Chinese lacquering on the «Year of the Dragon» Limited Edition is a genuine example of master
craftsmanship with the body of the pen given several successive coats of red lacquer, then black lacquer. The last coat is patiently and delicately polished, transforming the instrument into a jewel with brilliant, deep reflections.
With exquisite precision, the dragon is engraved by hand cutting into in the depths of the material to create a striking contrast as the brilliant black is revealed followed by the matt red. The Dragon appears majestic against the darkness of black lacquer.
