Sailor Tanabata - The Meeting of the
Stars . Limited to 33 pieces worldwide only
Sailor has produced a red Urushi lacquer King of Pen to commemorate the
Japanese star festival, Tanabata. This festival celebrates the meeting
of Altair and Vega, two star crossed lovers, who according to legend,
were separated by the Milky Way and fated to meet only once a year. In
Japan on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month every year, large
colorful streamers decorate city streets. Wishes are written on small
pieces of paper and hung from bamboo to commemorate the stars meeting.
At midnight, the bamboo and decorations are set afloat on a river or
burned.
The Urushi maki-e artist Mai Sato, has used the raden inlay technique to
represent the Milky Way and an inlaid mother-of-pearl dot on both sides
of the barrel representing Altair and Vega. There are two streaks of
blue abalone shimmering against the red Urushi. The artists signature in
gold can be seen at the base of the barrel.
With only 33 pieces of this Limited Edition series being produced
worldwide. This fountain pen comes with a 21k gold nib. Each pen comes
in its own presentation box accompanied with a certificate bearing the
signature of the artist and its limited edition number.
