"THE
LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE"
The
United States is a country of unlimited opportunities. The fascinating and
collective achievements of countless American entrepreneurs, scientists,
artists and athletes demonstrate this, as does the highly visible and
symbolic flag of the nation, the Stars and Stripes.
It
flies on the moon, on Mount Everest, in sporting arenas and outside the
headquarters of many of the most powerful companies in the world. It has
come to represent how America signs her name.
In
the year 1607, thousands of people from many different nations left their
homelands to find freedom and opportunity in the new world. One hundred and
seventy years later, on June 14, 1777, a very young and free nation
introduced its own new flag.
Since
then, on this day America celebrates Flag Day when houses, offices and shops
everywhere proudly fly the Stars and Stripes.
The
nation's first President, George Washington, is reported to have said of the
flag: We take the stars from Heaven, the red from our mother country,
separating it by white stripes, thus showing that we have separated from her
and the white stripes shall go down to posterity representing Liberty.

always be defended
..oer the land of the free and the home of the
