The Event
Every
50 years for thousands of years celebrations for the anno
del
jvbilaeum (Holy year o f the
jubilee) have been taking place. In the year 2000 as the jubilee year
coincides with the beginning of the 3rd millennium celebrations will be even
more grand.
The
ultimate derivation of the word JVBILAEVM (jubilee) is disputed, but it is
most probable that the Hebrew word JOBEL, to which it is traced, meant
"a ram's horn", and that from this instrument, used in proclaiming
the celebration, a certain idea of rejoicing was derived. Further, passing
through the Greek IOBELOS, the word became confused with the Latin jubilo,
which means "to shout", and has given us the forms jubilatio and
JVBILAEVM, now adopted in most European languages.
For
the Israelites the year of Jubilee was in any case preeminently a time of
joy, the year of remission or universal pardon. It has been celebrated every
fiftieth year and as it falls in the year 2000 it will be more special and
more celebrated.
For
this very special event the
Vatican
will be the focal point of these
celebrations.
Rome
,
Italy
has already started making special
arrangements for this celebration during which more than 10 million people
are expected to attend.
The
Writing Instrument
Due
to the importance of such an event Delta was the first pen company to
present a collection celebrating the jvbilaevm and the beginning of a new
Millennium.
This
collection is Delta's most important creation to date. To offer such an
important creation a specially designed new 18 kt solid gold nib was
created, and can be identified by the word Millennium which is engraved in
the top of the nib.
As
the
Vatican
will be the focal point of the
JVBILAEVM celebrations in
Rome
; Delta contracted a known Italian
artist to sculpture, in both solid sterling silver and in 18 Kt gold a
miniature of the Piazza of the
Vatican
. This sculpture surrounds the cap
of the JVBILAEVM 2000 (limited edition) collection.
The
pen body is also covered with a sculptured sleeve in both solid sterling
silver representing an antique column with the words Jobel,
Iobelos and Jvbilaevm engraved on it.
The
Collection
JVBILAEVM/JOBEL
limited to 2,000 pieces, fountain pen in sterling silver and special
