In
1878 in Barcelona, Spain a cultural and political renaissance was taking
place. At that same time, a soon to be renowned, architectural genius was
graduating from the Escola Superior d'Arquitectura in that same city.
Influenced by the air of
change surrounding him, by the theories of Viollet-le-Duc and Ruskin as
well as the modernista generation and the Catalan movement lending to Art
Nouveau as Barcelona approached its 1888 World Fair, Antoni Gaudi very
quickly found himself moving beyond current traditional themes or designs,
forging his own perception of architecture that, at the time, was
difficult to classify.
Quickly gaining recognition
among known industrialists of the day, Gaudi was commissioned by many to
create new and wonderful works, which in turn, helped his prestige in
Barcelona.
His use of color, texture,
metals and ceramics were never before seen at the time. His designs and
finished projects seemed to move and defy gravity and to this day are all
but impossible to emulate.
Antoni Gaudi was at the
pinnacle of the Art Nouveau movement in Spain. Many of Barcelona's most
recognized and memorable landmarks are at the hand of Antoni Gaudi. A true
genius ahead of his time, his works will forever remain as a testament to
the artist.
Commemorating the 125th
year of his Architectural Degree, Sailor is proud to introduce the Antoni
Gaudi Limited Edition fountain pen.
Constructed of solid brass
and following the surreal and characteristically warped form of Gothic
architecture created by Gaudi, this unique writing instrument is a modern
glimpse into his historic design.
Hand crafted by master nib
maker Mr. Nagahara, the nib is available in two sizes. Nagahara Medium or
Broad. The weight and balance of this pen coupled with Nagahara's nib
design creates a writing experience like no other. These nibs write much
broader than typical of Japanese nibs, so the medium is a true medium and
the broad is a true broad nib.
Combining the masterful
works of a legendary architect and a legend in nib design, Sailor is proud
to offer only 300 pieces world wide, each numbered for authenticity.
