A

To this day, Charles Dickens remains one of the
best-known and most widely read authors in English literature. His singular
ability to engage with his audience and his role as a champion of
"ordinary people" generated huge public interest. Now he joins the
ranks of the great writers honoured by Montblanc each year with a limited
edition - one of the precious writing instruments treasured by collectors
allover the world.
Time
for a critical chronicler of his period
Charles Dickens had the ability to paint
pictures with words, and depicted an entire period in convincing detail With
his unique feel for the emotional mood of his day, he was able to capture
the essence of Victorian England at the time of the Industrial Revolution. Forced to work at a young age himself, he was
still struggling years later to overcome the painful humiliations of
childhood. Time and again in his works, his own unhappy experiences form the
backdrop for the moving, comic portraits of his memorable heros. His main
characters are often children, who analyse society with a powerful blend of
naive astonishment and great insight But, above all, it is the power and
affection contained in his poignant and depictions that enabled Charles
Dickens to move the whole population to laughter and tears.
In masterpieces such as “Oliver Twist” and
“David Copperfield", Dickens successfully encapsulated the prevailing
political economic and social concerns of the time. His enthusiastic
audience, who first read many of his works in serialised form in magazines
and responded with countless letters, helped Dickens to remain in tune with
his readers. Dickens' novels have lost nothing of their popularity to this
day and can take their place amongst the great narrative works of world
literature.
