The amptuous
papal insignia, famed throughout the world, are reflected in every detail of
the Limited Edition Pope Julius II: 750 solid gold lattice-work and reddish
brown lacquered base with its fine guilloche design are reminiscence of the
colours of the clothing worn by the supreme pontiff. The exquisite
hand-engraved top of the cap, with the Montblanc star in mother-of-pearl,
represents the tiara, the papal crown. The 18 carat gold nib features the
finely engraved emblem of the pope who led the Church and promoted art in a
way virtually unrivalled before or after, thereby paying tributes to the
Pope Julius II.
Widely
considered to be one of the most influential patrons of art, Pope Julius II
consolidated the papal states and transformed Rome into the cultural center
of the Renaissance. He supported Michelangelo and Raphael, among others, and
commissioned the famous frescoes in the Sistine Chapel and ordered the
design and construction of St. Peters. Montblanc's tribute pen, their 2005
Patron of the Arts Limited Edition, is 18K solid gold overlay over a red
guilloche lacquer base. The pen is crowned with a cap that bears resemblance
to the shape of the papal tiara, and the nib is engraved with the Pontifex
Maximum coat of arms. Limited edition of 888 writing instruments worldwide.
